Track record
Our energy and offshore work, both contentious and noncontentious, has developed over the last 50 years, initially in the offshore sector. From this, we rapidly built a practice in drafting and advising on contracts for projects and operations, and for trouble-shooting and resolving disputes, on and offshore.
The Energy & Offshore group’s dispute resolution experience extends over the whole range of activities in the life of a project or field, from contracts for the design, engineering and construction of platforms, drilling units, pipelines and specialised ships, through claims arising from downtime, delays, changes in the scope of work and other problems occurring during operations, to issues relating to access to pipelines, completion and decommissioning.
We have a strong reputation for our effective handling of heavyweight technical disputes. We have acted on many major offshore construction disputes, drilling and pipeline disputes involving many hundreds of millions of dollars in claims. The issues extend not only to construction itself but also engineering and project management.
The familiarity we have with technical matters is particularly valuable in casualty investigations. Where these occur offshore, we draw on our unrivalled knowledge of maritime practices and on the laws relating to pollution.
